Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Dextr: getting started, syncing, privacy, and more.

How does Dextr protect my privacy?

Dextr processes all contact data locally on your device with backups stored in your iCloud, which is end-to-end encrypted by Apple. Your personal data is never sent to us. We don't sell your data or share your contacts with advertisers. We only collect anonymous usage analytics to improve the app.

How do I get started with Dextr?

Dextr syncs automatically with your iOS Contacts. After installing from the App Store, grant contacts permission and Dextr will import your contacts. Start by organizing contacts with tags, defining relationships, and using the AI Organizer Assistant to clean up duplicates and incomplete entries.

How does iCloud backup and sync work?

Dextr uses iCloud to sync your contact data across all your Apple devices. Enable iCloud sync in Settings to keep your tags, relationships, notes, and organization consistent across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Your iOS Contacts are always synced through Apple's native sync.

How do I sync my iOS Contacts with Dextr?

Dextr automatically syncs with your native iOS Contacts app. Any changes you make in Contacts will appear in Dextr, and vice versa. Dextr adds additional layers of organization (tags, relationships, notes) on top of your existing contacts without duplicating data.

How do I delete my data or account?

To delete your Dextr data, go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. This removes all Dextr-specific data (tags, relationships, notes, custom fields) but preserves your iOS Contacts. Your contacts remain in the native iOS Contacts app. For complete data deletion, delete the app after removing your account.

What iOS identifiers does Dextr access?

Dextr only accesses your Contacts permission (required for the app to function). We request optional permissions for notifications (reminders), calendar (event integration), and camera (business card scanning). You have full control over which permissions to grant. We never access or store your location, photos, or messages.
